Clay & Mosaic Classes
Ceramic Class Description

Beginning Ceramics:
By learning the basic hand-building techniques through making pinch pots, slab boxes, and coil built vessels, students
will develop an understanding of how to make many different shapes.  By applying slips and glazes to the shapes and
exploring a variety of decorative techniques, each object will transform into a unique, colorful work of art.

Intermediate Ceramics:
The intermediate classes will further develop the skills of students who have an understanding of basic hand-building
techniques by creating a series of functional or sculptural objects.  While focusing on the formal elements (line, color,
texture, volume, size, scale, and shape) each student will establish continuity in their work by designing and making a
set of objects that display a sense of unity and refined craftsmanship.

Advanced Ceramics:
Advanced students who have developed the ability to work independently in the ceramic process will be encouraged to
further explore the ideas that motivate their creative activities.  By engaging in discussions, sharing artwork, and
considering new approaches or processes, students will evaluate their art practice, isolate core concepts, and develop
strategies that will enhance their ceramic forms.  Experimentation and alternative approaches to working will be
suggested, but not required.  These courses are ideal for potters or sculptors who are ready to expand their way of
thinking and revitalize their way of working.

*All skill levels will be taught in the same classroom by our well trained, highly skilled artists.  Classes will be organized
by age groups.  Demonstrations, guidance and encouragement will be provided to the group, and individual attention
will be provided throughout the class sessions.  When enrolling please indicate your skill level and ceramic interests.
