Maurizio Gaetano Rivera
My goal as an artist is to incite an interest for History by bringing a visual aspect
to the Renaissance Period and Gladiators and Knights in particular, in essence
bringing them to life through sculpture.
Once I decided to create my first Gladiator, a Myrmillo, I read everything that I
could get my hands on so that I could create each piece as historically accurate as
possible. Incorporating my own personal touches along with the historical
information that I have learned about the Gladiators and Knights has allowed me
to create sculptures that I am very proud to put my name on. It is inspirational for
me to be able to look at each piece and see them just as they would have been
thousands of years ago.
I have lived in the United States most of my life, but was fortunate enough to have
spent my first seven years in Verona, Italy where I was able to see first hand the
incredible sculptures of the Renaissance. I am honored and grateful to be able to
follow my dream and look forward to many years of learning and creating.
