Sandy Whetstone
After following a career as an English teacher at
Sacramento City College for the past 14 years, Sandy
decided to devote more time to her art. She began in
2002 with batik painting and drawing while she was in
Thailand for a year with her family. Since then she has
worked with clay, bronze, steel, and acrylic.
Currently, Sandy divides her time between raising a family,
working on house and garden projects, volunteering at her
children's school, designing and teach a summer art camp
for children at a local Montessori school, and studio time
at Panama Pottery.
Much of her work has focused on the blending of flora and
fauna with the human form. Whimsy and humor are
important elements in her work. Most recently she has
been collaborating with her studio mate, the muralist and
exhibit designer Marsha Schindler, on several
commissioned ceramic woks and murals.
